‘I’m a huge fan’ – Alan Shearer claims Kane is ‘desperate’ to take his PL goal record

Alan Shearer has admitted he is a big fan of Harry Kane and insisted that the Tottenham striker is desperate to become the Premier League’s all-time top goalscorer.

Kane got off the mark for the 2022/23 season in dramatic fashion in the London derby on Sunday as his stoppage-time header helped Spurs to secure a point at Stamford Bridge.

The 29-year-old’s goal against the Blues brought him level with Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero as the player with the joint-most goals scored for a single club in Premier League history, with 184 strikes to his name (BBC Sport).

The Tottenham is now just 76 goals behind Shearer’s all-time record of 260 goals (PremierLeague.com), and having just turned 29 years of age, he will fancy his chances of overtaking the Newcastle legend’s tally.

Shearer is not in any doubt that the England captain is coming for his record, and added that the Spurs star deserves a lot of respect for doing things the hard way in his career so far.

The pundit said on The Totally Football Show (15/08/22): “Harry now, I’m a huge fan of Harry’s because he does it slightly differently.

“He’s had to do it the hard way, he had to go out on loan, nothing has been on a plate for Harry, he’s had to work extremely hard and he has worked at it.

“He deserves to be where he is and I know that he desperately wants that Premier League goalscoring record and he’s going to go all-out for it.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I expect Harry to not just clinch Shearer’s record but absolutely obliterate it. I believe Kane can quite easily play until his late thirties since he is not reliant on his athleticism and takes care of his body. So, I would not be surprised if he reaches the 300-goal mark, which will certainly take some beating.
