‘I’m a prizefighter’ – Spurs legend tells Eddie Hearn he wants boxing match

Jermain Defoe has said that he is ready to don the boxing gloves and enter the ring if he gets an opportunity to do so.

Jermain Defoe is one of Tottenham’s biggest legends of the Premier League era, with the striker scoring 143 goals in 363 appearances for the Lilywhites across two spells (Transfermarkt).

The 40-year-old, who hung up his boots last year, is considered by many to be one of the most natural finishers of the modern era.

The Spurs legend now works as an academy coach at Hotspur Way, imparting his experience and know-how to the young strikers coming through the system at the club.

The former striker revealed on the Outside the Box podcast last month that he dreams of managing Tottenham one day but admitted that he is taking things step by step and is keen to learn the ropes before jumping into management.

In the meantime, it looks like Defoe might be taking an interest in another sport, with the Spurs legend telling Eddie Hearn that he is ready to take up boxing.

He told IFL TV: “I would get the gloves on, no problem. Whoever wants it can get it, I don’t mind.

“Eddie Hearn, I’m a prizefighter so bring the money.”

It sounds like Defoe was merely being tongue-in-cheek here.

I doubt the Tottenham man would seriously consider getting into the ring at this time, especially given that he is in the process of building his coaching resume.
