“I’m Flabbergasted” – Former Spur launches expletive rant after incident at Brighton

Micky Hazard launched an expletive rant on Twitter aimed at the Premier League officials in charge of the game between Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur last night.

Robert Jones was on refereeing duty for the Premier League match at the Amex Stadium with Darren Cann and Derek Eaton his assistants while Graham Scott was fourth official and Lee Mason in charge of VAR.

With Tottenham already 2-0 ahead courtesy of goals from Cristian Romero and Harry Kane, the England international had a further opportunity deep into injury time.

A pass from substitute Emerson Royal found Kane just inside the Seagulls’ half and the forward showed good footwork to drive forward into the penalty area where the leg of Shane Duffy looked to have made contact with the Spurs player which left Kane on the floor.

Despite appeals from Kane, the referee failed to point to the penalty spot with VAR also refusing to look into the matter.

Former West Ham United defender Tony Gayle who was on co-commentary duty for Astro SuperSport was convinced it was a foul after seeing a replay of the incident (92:47).

Hazard was left irate at the decision in which he highlighted the scenario that Tottenham could have been level at 0-0 and VAR should be shelved if they cannot make the right calls.

Why VAR decided not to award a penalty or look to review the incident in depth was an absolutely staggering decision, as Hazard rightly points out if the score was level at 0-0 it could have had a catastrophic consequence on our hopes of finishing in the top four.
