‘I’m hearing’ – Journalist claims Mourinho is keen on raiding Spurs for 26-year-old

Journalist Dean Jones believes that Jose Mourinho is keen on raiding Tottenham Hotspur for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer.

It was Mourinho who brought Hojbjerg to Spurs from Southampton in the summer of 2020 and the Dane had an impressive debut season in North London.

The midfielder struggled to replicate the same consistency in the first half of this season and came in for criticism from sections of the Tottenham fan base.

However, he has looked back to his best over recent months, having formed a formidable partnership with Rodrigo Bentancur since the Urugwayan’s arrival at Spurs in January.

The 26-year-old admitted in an interview last week that he is determined to end Tottenham’s recent trophy drought and win titles with the Lilywhites (Daily Mail).

However, it has been suggested that Antonio Conte could be willing to cash in on Hojbjerg this summer as he plans to reshape his squad (Mirror).

Jones believes that the former Southampton man is likely to be on Mourinho’s shopping list as the Portuguese coach tries to get Roma challenging at the top end of the Serie A.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “One thing I’m hearing on Hojbjerg is that Jose Mourinho quite fancies taking him to Roma.

“Next season Jose intends to ask the board to back his vision as he thinks they can make a real push at the top of Serie A – and Hojbjerg could be a great asset.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Conte will likely want to upgrade on Hojbjerg in the central midfield area this summer. In fact, as it stands, I do not think the Dane would be an automatic starter for Spurs if Oliver Skipp is fit.

However, I do not think there is any chance that Hojbjerg will be sold this summer. The 26-year-old is the sort of personality that you need in the dressing room and I believe Conte will want to keep him around as a squad player.
