‘I’m in no rush’ – Reported Spurs target opens up on lack of summer transfer

Lille defender Sven Botman claims he is ‘in no rush’ to decide his future after being linked with a potential move to Tottenham this summer.

The 21-year-old was highly-coveted throughout the transfer window after a successful campaign with Les Dogues, ever-present in the heart of the defence which won the Ligue 1 title last season.

Spurs had Botman placed firmly near the top of their list of defensive targets this summer according to French outlet L’Equipe, but elected to move for Cristian Romero from Atalanta instead.

Wolverhampton Wanderers were also keeping tabs on the Netherlands U21 international and attempted a late move, tabling a £25 million bid on deadline day.

Talks eventually broke down between Wolves and Lille, meaning Botman would be spending more time in France as his side aim to defend their Ligue 1 crown.

However, the defender has not expressed any disappointment after moves to bring him to the Premier League failed this summer, adding he is embracing the opportunities currently approaching him.

When asked about a potential exit over the summer, Botman told Algemeen Dagblad: “No [I’m not disappointed], I’m too happy at Lille for that.

“I play at the top of French football. The Champions League is about to start. That’s good for me too. Sometimes opportunities come along you might want to go for. I’m in no rush – but I was open to [a move].

“I’m really looking forward to [the Champions League] because this is a stage on which I want to show myself.”

As time progresses, more clubs will likely take up a keen interest in Botman who was such a key part of Lille’s success in Ligue 1 last season. He is a young talent and will continue to grow, which will only increase Lille’s valuation over the coming transfer windows.
