“I’m like his big brother” – Agent Sissoko reveals his role in getting Ndombele to Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur made a massive statement of intent by securing the services of Tanguy Ndombele for a club-record fee a few weeks ago (BBC).

The midfielder does have some familiar faces at Tottenham in the form of Moussa Sissoko and Hugo Lloris with whom he has played alongside for the French national team.

Speaking to Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, Sissoko has now revealed that he made sure to put in a good word about Spurs to Ndombele when the pair met for international duty as soon as he knew of the club’s interest in signing him.

The 29-year-old said: “I spoke to him with the national team this season. I knew the club was interested in him.

“I told him it’s a good club and if he comes here, he will be happy and can do a lot of things.

“When he decided to sign here, we were all happy to have him with us.”

The former Newcastle man also insisted that he is doing all he can to help his French compatriot settle in England quickly so that he can showcase his best form.

He added, “It’s true. I’m like his big brother, I’m trying to help him. I know when you come from another country it’s not easy, especially when you don’t speak the language.

“I’m trying to help him, to give him a lot of confidence to feel free on the pitch. I try to do what I can and he will be a big benefit for the team. We want him to be ready to play.”

“I know how it works here. I’ve been in England for more than six years, so I can teach him the good things to do, how we work here and what we can do to improve. He’s happy!”

Ndombele for his part said he was fortunate to have someone like Sissoko at the club who he knows well and that he looks forward to enjoying some success together with him on the pitch.

The new Spurs signing said, “I like [having him here]. It’s a big thing for me, because he’s helping me with everything.

“He knows how it works here. He’s been in England, so he can teach me the good things to do, how we work here and what we can do to improve. I’m happy.

“I’ve been following him since he was in France. To come to a new club and know someone, especially from the national team, makes it easier so I’m very happy to be here. I hope me and Moussa can have a lot of success together.”

The pair seem to be developing a great relationship off the pitch. Hopefully, that will help them to forge a solid partnership on it as well. The pace, power as well as the offensive quality of a Ndombele, Sissoko pairing in the middle of the park is a mouthwatering prospect, to say the least.
