‘I’m not interested’ – Heung-min Son comments on Arsenal’s start to the season

Tottenham Hotspur star Heung-min Son has been speaking to Football.London about the upcoming North London derby, and insisted he is not interested in Arsenal’s impressive start to the Premier League season.

It seemed for much of last season that Arsenal would be the ones to secure a top four finish at the expense of their London rivals. Tottenham completed an incredible comeback, though, and ended up pipping the Gunners to fourth place.

This season, Arsenal have started even stronger, and currently sit at the top of the Premier League table after 17 games. They hold a five point lead over their nearest competitors Manchester City, and are a massive 11 points clear of Tottenham, with a game in hand.

Certainly, the table doesn’t make pleasant reading if you’re a Spurs fan right now considering the prospect of fierce rivals Arsenal taking home the title this year.

Nevertheless, with the two sides set to take each other on next weekend, Spurs can close that gap and put a dent in Arsenal’s title hopes.

Looking ahead to the game, Son was asked how he felt about the Gunners’ early season form, and the 30-year-old had a pragmatic response.

He said: “I’m not interested, to be honest. Every game is tough, everybody is preparing well. We have a week to prepare for the biggest game in North London. We lost at the Emirates Stadium and our fans were really disappointed so we have to do our homework and make it good again.

“We have a massive task at home so everybody must be ready to throw their body in and we’re good to go. It’s been really important to win these two games for our confidence it will be very important.”

Not to be dramatic but if we don’t beat Arsenal next week, we are going to be in for a pretty rough second half of the season. Not only would a win for Arsenal give them even more confidence, but it would be such a blow to our hopes of a top four finish, too.
