‘I’m proud’ – Conte reveals what he told Spurs players before Brighton game

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has been speaking to the press after his side’s win over Brighton in the Premier League tonight, and revealed what he said to the players before the game.

Spurs went into the Brighton game looking to bounce back from a bitterly disappointing defeat to fierce rivals Arsenal in the North London derby last weekend.

The Lilywhites travelled to the Amex Stadium looking to be the first away side to win there in the league since March.

A first-half header from Harry Kane proved to be the winning goal in a hotly-contested tie. The game carried extra significance in light of the passing of Tottenham’s fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone on Thursday.

Ventrone joined Antonio Conte’s backroom staff in November 2021 and has been integral to the improved fitness and physicality of the Spurs players. His impact on and off the pitch has been immense, and the weight of his passing has been felt throughout the club.

Speaking to the press after the game (via Football.London), Antonio Conte revealed how he motivated the players before the match in light of the tragic events this week.

He said: “Many times we tried to find the motivation to push these players and to create a situation and to increase the tension. Today honestly I did nothing under this aspect.

“I left them to face the situation and they showed me to be really good people, top men. I said to them just now that I’m proud to be the coach of this team because first of all we have top men and really good players.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The Spurs players pulled a fantastic, gritty performance out of the bag this evening to secure a big win in a very difficult game. Emotions were high before, during, and after the game, but the players did everything that could be asked of them.

There’s no wonder Conte didn’t need to say much to the team to get them motivated for the game, as it’s abundantly clear just how important Ventrone was to everyone in the squad, and how keen they were to pay tribute to him with a win.
