‘I’m ready’ – Spurs star claims players will show ‘effort and commitment’ to Conte

Eric Dier has insisted that he and his teammates are ready to put in the hard work necessary to succeed under Antonio Conte.

In the week since Conte’s appointment, there have been plenty of articles detailing the incessant work rate the Italian expects of his players on the training pitch.

According to reports, the 52-year-old informed the Tottenham squad in his first meeting with them that he would instil a winning mentality but only if every player gave everything for the cause.

When Dier was asked if he is prepared for what lies ahead under Conte, he told NBC Sports: “Yeah, I’m ready. I think we are all ready for sure. I think it is a case of not talking much about it but acting.

“I think that’s the message as well, so yeah, the only place you can show it is on the pitch, every day in training and then on match days and that is where you have to show your effort and commitment and not here [in the interview].”

Conte’s first Premier League game in charge of the North Londoners ended in a 0-0 draw at Goodison Park

The former Chelsea boss insisted after the game that Everton was a tough place to come but admitted that Tottenham had to be better in the final third.

Spurs could have won it at the very end through Giovani Lo Celso but the Argentine’s strike came off the post.

When asked about that moment, Dier said: “From where I was it looked as if it was going to creep in, it had a lovely shape on it and a little more inside that post and it probably would have hit it and gone in, it was a great effort.

“That is probably the one disappointment, we didn’t create enough chances. I think we could have done more, we could have created more and that is disappointing.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The criticism that the Tottenham players have received over the last couple of years for the lack of leadership in the dressing room, is not entirely unfounded.

However, the one thing these players cannot be accused of is not being prepared to work hard.

A lot of these players shone under Pochettino and the Argentine certainly worked the players extremely hard, at least in his first 3 to 4 years at the club.
