‘I’m sure’ – Journalist makes confident claim about Spurs and Lautaro Martinez

Journalist Pete O’Rourke is confident that Tottenham Hotspur will consider signing Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez this summer if they get any indication that he is available.

There has been plenty of speculation linking Tottenham with a move for Martinez recently, with some publications reporting last month that Spurs are set to prioritise a deal for the Inter star when the transfer window reopens in the summer (Inter Live).

Gianluca Di Marzio has said that Fabio Paratici rates the Argentine international highly and insisted the Nerrazuri would be open to selling the player this summer for a fee of around €70m (£58.9m) (Wettfreunde).

TuttoSport subsequently claimed Paulo Dybala’s proposed move to Inter could open the door for Martinez to transfer from the San Siro to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

O’Rouke has now claimed that Conte is a big fan of the 24-year-old and backed the Lilywhites to seriously consider a move if the forward is put up for sale.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think Fabio Paratici is a big fan of Lautaro Martinez, as is Antonio Conte. If they get any indication that maybe a deal can be done, I’m sure they will consider it.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not convinced that Spurs would spend big on a player like Martinez as he might not necessarily be an automatic starter for us, given how impressive Kulusevski has been.

So, I suspect that Conte might prefer to sign a backup forward like Depay relatively cheaply and use the majority of the funds to strengthen the wing-back areas and at left centre-back.
