‘I’m sure we will use him’ – Postecoglou says Spurs fringe player will soon get his chance

Ange Postecoglou has said that Oliver Skipp will get opportunities to showcase his qualities over the coming weeks, given the injuries and suspensions that Tottenham are currently dealing with.

Skipp’s only start in the Premier League this season came in Tottenham’s opening day draw at the Gtech Community Stadium, with the midfielder coming on as a substitute on 11 occasions this season (Transfermarkt).

The 23-year-old has often been used in a slightly more advanced role over recent weeks and has put in some impressive cameos, most notably in Spurs’ 3-3 draw at the Etihad Stadium at the start of this month.

With Yves Bissouma now suspended for four matches and with him and Pape Sarr set to soon travel to the African Cup of Nations, journalist Dan Kilpatrick revealed in The Standard a couple of days ago that Postecoglou is ready to turn to Skipp during the current spell.

Oliver Skipp will get a chance in Number 6 role soon

The Spurs head coach has now confirmed that the Tottenham academy graduate will have a chance to prove his worth during the upcoming matches.

When asked whether Skipp can operate as a number six in his system, Postecoglou told Football.London: “Most of the time he has been coming on in games where we need some energy further up the park and that’s the role he has fulfilled, but he can play at six and probably will play there.

“We have three games over the next week so he probably will get an opportunity at some point in that position and with Biss being away pretty much until the end of January, I am sure we will use him in that space.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I would much rather see Skipp starting against Everton than Hojbjerg as it is clear that the latter does not have a future at Spurs under Postecoglou.

With Bentancur seemingly not close to returning and with Bissouma and Sarr set to travel to AFCON, the 23-year-old now has a golden opportunity to show Ange just what he can do.
