‘I’m told’ – Crouch reveals what he has heard about Spurs squad and Conte in training

Peter Crouch has revealed that the Tottenham players are still impressed by Antonio Conte in training and believes the Italian did not mean what he said in his post-Burnley outburst last week.

Conte cut a frustrated figure after seeing his Spurs side lose 1-0 to the Clarets in midweek, in which he appeared to hint of a potential departure from the club (The Guardian).

The defeat was Spurs’ fourth in their last five Premier League games, but a response was issued on Saturday after securing a comprehensive 4-0 win at lowly Leeds United.

But despite the uncertainty garnered around Conte’s future in North London, former Tottenham and England striker Crouch has since shared that the squad is still firmly behind the charismatic Italian.

The player-turned-pundit also explained that Conte’s comments will have been out of frustration more than anything and will not necessarily have meant what he said.

Crouch wrote in his column for the Daily Mail: “Antonio Conte, who I’m told the players are incredibly impressed by in training, realises that, although there will be an element of regret for the way he spoke at Burnley in midweek.

“I know what it’s like. When I was interviewed after defeats, I would come out and say things I didn’t mean. I’ve said things in dressing rooms that I’ve apologised for on the Monday. We all have.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It has been a turbulent week for Spurs after that high win over Manchester City. The Burnley defeat brought out a lot of frustration for everyone, especially Conte, but the Leeds win has somewhat eased all that pressure.

It is now down to Spurs to maintain some consistency, which has been lacking in recent weeks, to keep them in the hunt for European football next season.
