‘I’m very calm’ – Bastoni breaks silence about his future amidst Spurs links

Alessandro Bastoni has revealed Inter Milan have not communicated anything to him about a potential transfer amidst speculation linking him with a move to Tottenham.

Bastoni is thought to be Spurs’ number one centre-back target this summer but it was initially reported that while the Antonio Conte’s men were willing to meet Inter’s asking price for the 23-year-old, the Italian defender was reluctant to leave the San Siro (Football.London’s Alasdair Gold).

Some reports had suggested that Inter might force Bastoni out as they needed the funds from his sale to push ahead a move for Torino’s Gleison Bremer (The Evening Standard).

On Tuesday, it emerged that Bastoni had changed his stance and communicated to the Nerazzurri hierarchy that he wants to reunite with Antonio Conte at Spurs (90 Min).

However, the centre-back himself has now seemingly poured cold water on that claim, insisting that he plans to begin pre-season with the Serie A club as things stand.

Speaking after Italy’s 2-1 win over Hungary, Bastoni told RAI Sport (as relayed by Sempre Inter): “I have a two-year contract with Inter. I’m very calm about it.

“The club hasn’t communicated anything to me, so I’ll finish up with the matches with the national team, then I’ll go on holiday and then start training again in Appiano with Inter.”

Bastoni’s words should be taken with a pinch of salt. It is highly unlikely that Inter would not have communicated to the centre-back’s hierarchy that he might be sold this summer, given their financial situation.

In fact, Bastoni’s own agent hinted last week that the Serie A club might need to sell him (Football Italia). Conte and Paratici would have also likely spoken to the 23-year-old about joining Spurs.
