‘I’m very happy’ – Manager thinks he got a great deal from Tottenham in January

Thomas Tuchel has hailed the impact Eric Dier has made since arriving at Bayern Munich and admitted that the centre-back has exceeded expectations.

There were some eyebrows raised when Bayern secured Dier in January, given that the centre-back was struggling for game time at Tottenham even when the club were going through an injury crisis.

However, the 30-year-old’s performances so far have vindicated Bayern’s decision. Not only has the experienced defender got regular game time, but he has consistently delivered solid performances, showing his leadership qualities at the back.

The England international has consistently got the nod to start ahead of both Kim Min-Jae and Dayot Upamecano and has repaid the faith that Tuchel has shown him, playing a crucial role in helping the German side progress to the semifinals of the Champions League at Arsenal’s expense.

Thomas Tuchel is delighted with Eric Dier

Tuchel has admitted that Dier was the missing piece of jigsaw for the Bavarian club, given his ability to organise the backline.

The Bayern boss said (via The Daily Mail): “Eric Dier has been an excellent signing. I’m extremely pleased with him. He’s absolutely exceeded expectations. He’s an extremely important piece of the jigsaw. He’s organised, vocal, which we’ve not had as much. I’m very happy.”

I could not be happier for Dier and all the Tottenham fans who treated the centre-back as some sort of joke have hopefully learned their lesson. The 30-year-old has demonstrated during his Spurs career that he is a top player in the right kind of system and is proving the same once again at Bayern.
