‘I’m with you’ – Former £30m Spurs man sends message of support to Son

Former Tottenham Hotspur player Moussa Sissoko has offered his support to Heung-min Son after the South Korean star prepares for surgery on a fracture around his eye.

Son was forced off in the first half during Tottenham’s incredible 2-1 win over Marseille in the Champions League on Tuesday night after a collision with Marseille defender Chancel Mbemba.

It was feared Son may have suffered a concussion at the time and he was replaced by Yves Bissouma on the night. Tottenham Hotspur has since confirmed that the 30 year old will require surgery for a fracture on his left eye.

It is unclear at this moment how long the recovery period will be for Son. The worst case scenario is that he misses the next three games for Spurs and could even miss the World Cup.

The Daily Mail posits a more promising option though, which could see Son wear a protective mask allowing him to play for Spurs against Leeds on November 12 before joining South Korea for the World Cup in Qatar later this month.

Sissoko, formerly a record signing at Tottenham (Sky Sports), still has a close connection with the club despite leaving in the summer of 2021. The 33 year old made 202 appearances for Spurs in his time there (Transfermarkt).

The Frenchman took to Instagram after hearing the news about Son’s upcoming surgery and posted a message to his former teammate. Sissoko said: “I am with you, my friend,” in a post on his Instagram story.

Hopefully Heung-min Son gets through this surgery without any complications and we see him back on the pitch soon with a mask to protect his face. He may not be having the best season, but Son is still such an important outlet for our counter attacking system. On top of this, it would be heartbreaking for Son to miss the World Cup with South Korea, so fingers crossed he makes a speedy recovery.
