‘Imagine’ – Diego Forlan admits he would love to see Spurs star at Atletico Madrid

Diego Forlan has waxed lyrical about Heung-min on and admitted that he would love to see the Tottenham star playing for his beloved Atletico Madrid.

Son is arguably having the best season of his career so far, having scored 18 times and provided 16 assists in all competitions this campaign.

The South Korean has formed the Premier League’s most lethal partnership with Harry Kane, with the pair breaking the record for the most goal combinations in a single season.

There have been rumours for a number of months suggesting that Tottenham are looking to tie up the 28-year-old to a new contract but no official update has been forthcoming on that matter.

Forlan, who scored 74 goals in 134 games for Atletico, revealed that he is a huge fan of the Tottenham star and would love to see him in red and white.

However, the former Manchester United man admitted that Son would likely prove too expensive a signing for Diego Simeone’s side.

Forlan said in an interview with South Korean journalist Sungmo Lee: “He’s (Son) a top, top player. Really doing well, quick, strong. If any team has an opportunity to buy him, he’ll be a great asset for them as he’s such a top top player.

“(If Son moves to Atletico Madrid) He would be awesome for us. But I know he’s a very expensive player it will be not easy for us to buy him (smiles). The style that Atletico Madrid is playing, and him being side of Suarez, Felix. Those 3 upfront!

“A. Madrid is good now. Imagine if Son comes to A. Madrid. It would be much better for us, we’ll be much better than this season of course.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is a lot of speculation about Kane’s future almost every single time we have a bad result but I am surprised by the lack of rumours about Son, particularly given that the South Korean has only a little over two years left on his current deal. If we fail to get into the Champions League and Kane pushes to leave, Son will likely have doubts over signing a new contract.
