Emerson Royal has been the subject of interest from Saudi Arabia recently, but Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has insisted he wants the player to stay at the club.
It’s safe to say Emerson Royal‘s time at Spurs has been a series of ups and downs. The Brazilian joined the club from Barcelona in 2021, but had struggled to establish himself until recently.
Under Ange Postecoglou, Royal has proven his worth to the squad this season by filling in across the entire back four. He has made 18 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal (Transfermarkt).
His recent ability to provide much-needed cover at centre-half in the absence of both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven has earned the 25-year-old a lot of praise from those connected with the club.
It was revealed in the last week that Tottenham had rejected an offer for Royal from Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, but it was thought the club may return with an improved bid (Tom Barclay). According to talkSPORT, both the player and his manager are happy and wouldn’t sanction a move anyway.

Postecoglou wants to keep Emerson Royal
Now, Ange Postecoglou himself has spoken on the matter, and it seems very unlikely that Royal would be heading out of the club any time soon.
On the speculation, Postecoglou told Football.London: “I am not sure about the incident you’re talking about, no one has asked me about Emerson, but he’s been hugely important to us. Without Emerson and Ben during this period, we would have really, really struggled.
“Not just playing at centre-back, but also filling in at right-back at times, left-back at times. He is a great guy to have in the group, he trains hard every day and is a quality player. He is in the Brazil national team so Emerson is an important part of what we’re doing.”
Spurs Web Opinion
There is no way Emerson Royal will be leaving the club this month, and I think the work he has put in over the course of this season is enough to keep him firmly in Postecoglou’s plans for the foreseeable future.
