‘Important to our Club’ – Daniel Levy on why he has appointed Ange Postecoglou as Spurs head coach

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has spoken about the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as the club’s new head coach.

After more than 70 days of searching, Tottenham Hotspur finally ended their managerial search with the appointment of Postecoglou from Celtic on a four-year deal.

It is fair to say that while some Spurs fans are excited to see some attacking, champagne football, others are rather underwhelmed by Daniel Levy‘s choice of head coach.

Levy highlighted the 57-year-old’s track record of adopting an attacking style of play while also focusing on promoting from within the academy ranks, something which has been put on the back burner by previous appointments.

He told the official Spurs site: “Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play. He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy – everything that is important to our Club.

“We are excited to have Ange join us as we prepare for the season ahead.”

The Lilywhites tried and failed to hand the reins to a proven winner at the highest level in Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, with both of those tenures ending on somewhat of a sour note.

Postecoglou is as polarised to those big names as you can get, having never held down a position in a European top-five league. In fact, just two years ago he was managing Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan.

However, after making the switch to Celtic in 2021, the Australian has won five out of the six trophies available to him, including an impressive treble this season.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Tottenham fans have been waiting for over two years for Levy to live up to his promise of returning to Tottenham’s DNA in which he promised to appoint a new manager committed to attacking football and blooding young players.

Time will tell whether Levy has finally made the right appointment in a track record that is full of previous mistakes when it comes to the head coach role.
