The print edition of Marca (03/03 – as relayed by Sport Witness) has revealed that there is no chance of Sergio Reguilon staying at Atletico Madrid beyond the end of the season.
Reguilon has seen just 98 minutes of action across five matches this season and is yet to start a single game for Atletcio (Transfermarkt).
It looked as though his luck may have turned when Estadio Deportivo reported that the Spaniard is expected to return to action in a couple of weeks from his hamstring problem and could be in line to get starts.
This was because Ateltico’s first-choice left-back, Reinildo Mandava, is not expected to kick a ball again this season.
Marca now report that while Reinildo has suffered a serious injury and is expected to be on the sidelines for up to eight months, Diego Simeone does not think Reguilon is the answer at left back.
The report states that Atletico’s sporting director, Andrea Beta has started searching the market for a new left-back as neither the Spurs man nor Renan Lodi, who is on loan at Nottingham Forest, are seen as suitable replacements.

The publication adds that Reguilon’s injuries and failure to impress have made it ‘impossible’ for the Colchoneros to ask Tottenham for an extension of his loan deal.
The 26-year-old is thus expected to return to Spurs at the end of his loan spell before finding out whether he will continue there or move elsewhere in the summer.

Reguilon’s constant injury woes have robbed him of any chance to impress Diego Simione but if the 26-year-old can put his fitness issues behind him, plenty of La Liga clubs would likely be prepared to take a punt on him, given how well he did at Sevilla previously.
