“Impossible not to be affected” – Poch says new stadium is going to be a nightmare for opponents

Tottenham beat Crystal Palace 2-0 in their first Premier League match at the new stadium yesterday to climb back to 3rd spot in the table.

The Spurs players put in a professional performance, dominating the game from start to finish with Palace barely threating the Spurs goal until the final 10 minutes of the match.

The Tottenham players were no doubt buoyed by the occasion and the crowd, who sang their hearts out for ninety minutes.

The stadium has several unique features including a massive single tier south stand that can hold 17,000 people, and the stands are also extremely steep and really close to the action.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said after the game that the atmosphere at the new stadium will help life the players.

He also said that the hostile atmosphere means that opposition players will not be looking forward to playing at the venue.

Speaking during the post-match press conference, the Argentine told Football.London, “Yes, for sure for the opponent it is going to be difficult. If like me I am the manager of Tottenham or I am playing for Tottenham, you adapt so quickly in this atmosphere and I think it was amazing.

“It is impossible not to be affected by your fans, the energy and emotion to be there and run, shoot, save and tackle.

“If you are not motivated to play in this type of atmosphere something wrong happened in your head. For sure it is going to be tough for the opponent.”
