Impressive stat shows just how good Spurs have been against Liverpool and Man City

The Athletic have revealed that more than a quarter of the points Manchester City and Liverpool have dropped to teams other than each other this season have come against Tottenham Hotspur alone.

Tottenham go into the clash at Anfield as massive underdogs, with Liverpool on a brilliant run of form and chasing a historic quadruple.

Although the Reds did stutter in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Villarreal before mounting a comeback, their record at home this season has been near flawless.

However, if Spurs’ record against top teams this season is anything to go by, Tottenham fans should be quietly confident.

The North Londoners have done the double over Man City this season while they held Liverpool a 2-2 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in December.

Spurs have thus taken seven points off the two title contenders, which The Athletic reveal, is three more than any other team in the division has managed, despite Conte’s men having a game in hand.

Despite the game in hand, 26 per cent of the points that Liverpool and City have dropped cumulatively this season (apart from the games against each other), have come against the Lilywhites.

Spurs Web Opinion

Conte admitted in his pre-match press conference (Football.London) that Tottenham are better suited to playing teams that try to attack them than those that defend deep. If any team has proven capable of beating City and Liverpool this season in one-off games, it is us.

I expect Conte to abandon his tactic of playing out from the back and trying to draw the opposition out as Liverpool create their chances by winning the ball high up the pitch. Instead, I expect us to go direct and bypass the Reds’ press just like we did in the reverse fixture back in December.
