Impressive statistic puts Bentancur level with Arsenal playmaker in 19 fewer games

According to WhoScored, Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur created the same amount of clear-cut chances as Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard despite playing considerably fewer games in the Premier League.

Arriving alongside Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus in January, Bentancur emerged as a key man under Antonio Conte as Spurs marched towards Champions League qualification last season.

The Uruguay international developed a strong partnership with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, making 18 appearances (Transfermarkt) en route to the club’s late surge into the top four.

While Bentancur made it his role to be sensible on the ball and recycle possession, the 25-year-old also proved himself to be a more creative asset from deep in midfield.

And WhoScored have revealed that, despite making 19 fewer appearances in the Premier League, Bentancur managed to create six clear-cut goalscoring chances for his teammates – the same as Arsenal’s Odegaard.

The Norwegian midfielder played 36 times for the Gunners last season (Transfermarkt) but could not inspire Mikel Arteta’s side to close out the campaign with a place at Europe’s top table.

Two detrimental defeats at the hands of Spurs and Newcastle respectively saw them lose out to their North London rivals by just two points at the end of proceedings.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham got exactly what they asked for with Bentancur and they will be so happy that he managed to settle in and make such a good impact in midfield.

It is interesting that he tallied the same amount of big chances as Odegaard – arguably a more creative midfielder – but it shows he has plenty of assets to his style of play.
