‘In a heartbeat’ – Spurs legend urges club to sign 15-goal striker on one condition

Michael Dawson believes that Tottenham Hotspur should not think twice about snapping up Ivan Toney if Harry Kane departs the club in the summer.

Toney’s reputation has continued rising steadily since Brentford’s promotion to the top flight in 2021, with the centre-forward currently enjoyin an outstanding campaign with the Bees.

The 26-year-old is only behind Erling Haaland and Harry Kane in the goalscoring charts this season, having found the back of the net 15 times in 23 Premier League matches so far.

Meanwhile, the speculation over Kane’s future continues to intensify as we get closer to the summer transfer window but some outlets have suggested over the last few days that Tottenham have no intention of selling their talisman irrespective of where they finish or whether he signs a new contract (Sky Sports).

If the England captain does depart, Dawson believes that Toney is the right man to fill his shoes.

When asked if the Brentford star is good enough for Arsenal, the former Tottenham centre-back told Sky Sports News (2:18 pm, March 11, 2023): “Arsenal, yeah, he could play for Arsenal. If Harry Kane goes to Manchester United, I would take him in a heartbeat.”

Toney could be set to face a football ban of at least six months having been charged over alleged breaches of betting rules (Sky Sports).

Spurs Web Opinion

Replacing Harry Kane with any one player is going to be impossible if the 29-year-old leaves. However, if he does depart, I would much rather see Spurs go after Toney than take a punt on talents such as Dusan Vlahovic or Victor Osimhen, who are unproven in the Premier League.
