In Focus: Moussa Sissoko should get player of the season

Many may believe that Heung Min Son is a more worthy candidate for player of the season at Tottenham, but I disagree.
In my view, it comes down to the fact that Son’s position and role in the side grabs more headlines and gets more bums off seats.
Goals win games, and Son has been providing plenty. However, I would say that Moussa Sissoko has been a more consistent driving force in that Tottenham midfield.
He has played more games than nearly every other Spurs player. He contributes defensively, with driving forward runs, positive passes, and strength and power, albeit without a goal threat.
Without him this season, especially with our injuries, we would have really struggled. He’s played centre mid, right back, and right wing, all with amazing success.
Credit where credit is due, even to the more defensive and less glamorous players.
Fair play to Moussa for putting his awful Tottenham career beginnings behind him and pushing through to become the player he is today. If only he’d scored that goal against Liverpool.

  1. OK, so he turned out to not be terrible. He’s extremely strong, fast, so he’s helped us a lot this year. But he’s still the weak link in our team; he’s still the reason we’re not dominating teams like we used to (before Wanyama lost it). He could get ‘most improved player’ – but what an insult to Harry Kane – the man who’s yet again our top scorer, but also the one of the best passers I’ve ever seen at Spurs – to miss out twice in a row on getting the award from his own fans.

Last year, Kane scored 41 goals and missed out to Vertonghen. Yes, Jan is one of the best CBs going, but there are more good centre backs than there are strikers who can scored more than 40 per year! If we want Kane to show loyalty to us, then it’s madness we keep looking to other players as our player of the year just because we don’t want the ‘obvious choice’ or because we’re too used to Kane’s brilliance.

Yet again, Kane has undoubtedly been our best player. Followed by Son and Vertonghen…with a shout-out to Toby and Eriksen (who hasn’t been great the last few games but was immense earlier in the season).

  2. Yeah, just a shame he can’t manage to kick a football on target to save his life. Still, what do you expect from a top level premiership footballer, honestly!

  3. I somewhat agree. I was NOT a Sissoko fan for about 18 months or so after he came to Spurs. But, this season, he has been very good. Now, if he could only shoot .
