Brad Friedel has spoken in glowing terms of the talent possessed by Weston McKennie, who is reportedly on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the January transfer window.

Reports from Italy over recent weeks have backed Spurs to make a move for McKennie when the transfer window opens this winter (Calciomercato).

Juventus are allegedly ready to cash in on the USA international as they need to raise funds to make other moves in the transfer market (Il Bianconero).

Fabio Paratici is thought to have been instrumental in taking McKennie to Turin back in 2020 and the Spurs managing director of football remains an admirer of the player (TMW).

It has even been suggested over recent weeks that Antonio Conte has wanted to sign the 24-year-old for ‘quite some time’ (ESPN FC).

Friedel has now waxed lyrical about McKennie, describing the Juve star as the United States’ best player while talking about his nation’s hopes in Qatar.

The former Spurs number one told Tottenham’s official website: “If the US have everyone fit, we’re pretty good, and we’ll be able to compete against anyone, but you have no divine right to win at a World Cup.

“Weston McKennie is a phenomenally gifted player, really good. In my opinion, he’s our best player.”

Spurs Web Opinion

My suspicion is that McKennie rather than Ruslan Malinovskyi is Paratici’s and Conte’s top midfield target in January. The USA international strikes me as a typical Conte player, given the engine and tactical maturity, and I would not be surprised if Spurs raid Juve for the 24-year-old.
