Injured Spurs man back in training next week but may not feature again this season – Says Mourinho

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has offered an injury update on Japhet Tanganga after Jose Mourinho’s comments in his latest Zoom pre-match press conference.

It was confirmed just a few days before the restart of the Premier League season that the young defender had suffered a stress fracture in his back that was set to keep him out for several weeks.

The injury was a bitter blow for the centre-back, who had earned Jose Mourinho’s trust prior to the suspension of the league and was getting regular game time.

The 21-year-old had proven his versatility by putting in effective displays across the backline.

Mourinho admitted that the injury to Tanganga, along with Juan Foyth’s knee problem, meant that Spurs lacked a natural option to cover for Serge Aurier at right-back (Football.London).

Eccleshare has now revealed that the Spurs academy graduate is expected to be back in training from next week.

However, he added that Jose Mourinho has his doubts over whether Tanganga will be fit enough to play a part in the six remaining games this season.

Spurs Web Opinion

We have games coming thick and fast until the end of the season, with Spurs playing five times in 13 days starting from the game against Everton on Monday. Therefore, I would not expect Tanganga to become match fit in time to feature in those matches. However, we do have an extended break before our final game of the season against Palace, which the youngster could be fit enough to feature in.
