‘Injuries have held me back’ – Spurs player is happy and ready to kick on now

Djed Spence is finding his feet over in Italy with Genoa, and the Tottenham Hotspur man has discussed how well he has settled in at the Serie A side thanks to the teammates around him.

Things have not gone to plan for Djed Spence since his move to Tottenham in the summer of 2022.

Sidelined by Antonio Conte and then shipped out on loan to Stade Rennais for the second half of last season, Spence returned to Tottenham in the summer and did not do enough to impress Ange Postecoglou, either.

Spence spent the first half of the current campaign with Leeds United, but was sent back to Spurs early. Thankfully, he found a new home as part of the deal to bring Radu Dragusin to Tottenham, with Spence heading to Genoa on loan until the end of the season.

Djed Spence happy at Genoa

Reflecting on his progress with Genoa so far, Spence revealed he has settled in fairly well in Italy, but is still frustrated by injuries holding him back.

Speaking to Tuttosport, Spence said: “Above all, injuries have held me back. When you stop it takes time to recover, but now I’m growing and step by step I can get to the highest level. But above all I feel good now.

“I have to say that I’ve settled in very well and I’m having fun here. In the locker room my teammates helped me settle in very quickly and this also came from the staff. I’m very happy.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I’m happy Djed Spence has found a place he can settle and play regularly and finally start to show what he can do again. There’s a good player in there, and it would be a shame to see that talent go to waste, even if he may not have a future at Tottenham.
