‘Insane’ – Ben Davies thinks one Tottenham player’s exploits have gone under the radar 

Ben Davies thinks Son Heung-min does not get the credit he deserves for the consistency he has shown at Tottenham, admitting that he is in awe of the number of goals the forward scores year in and year out.

Son has continued to evolve as a footballer and get better ever since arriving at Tottenham in 2015, with last season under Antonio Conte perhaps being the only campaign where he has struggled a little.

The Spurs captain continues to post astonishing numbers, having scored 15 goals and provided eight assists in just 27 league matches this season.

The 31-year-old’s matchwinner against Luton Town last Saturday was his 160th goal for the club, with the strike taking him into the top five in Spurs’ all-time goalscoring charts.

Son’s record in the Premier League is also astounding, with the forward having scored 118 times and provided 60 assists in 294 matches in the English top flight (Transfermarkt).

Davies admitted that it is ridiculous for the South Korean to be posting these kinds of numbers when he has not even played as a striker for the majority of his time at the club.

The defender told Tottenham’s official website about Son: “If you look at his goalscoring record… it’s insane. The sheer consistency.

“After that tough first year, he’s scored double figures just about every season, mainly from the wing and that’s no mean feat, but he’s done it, on repeat, season after season. It almost goes under the radar, but it’s incredible.”

Son is undoubtedly one of the greatest to have ever graced the Premier League and he still does not get the credit he deserves in some quarters. Perhaps the wider footballing community will only realise just how good he was when his time in English football is up.
