Tottenham ‘insider’ John Wenham has claimed that Kion Etete could be loaned out to a Championship club next season.
Etete, who shone for Tottenham’s Under-23s in Premier League 2 last season, had an outstanding loan spell at Northampton Town in the first half of this campaign, scoring six goals and registering two assists for the club (Transfermarkt).
Spurs recalled him in January and loaned him out to Cheltenham Town and the striker has taken superbly to League One, with five goal involvements in eight appearances for the club so far (Transfermarkt).
Despite his impressive showing at the Jonny-Rocks stadium over the past couple of months, Wenham believes it is too soon for Tottenham to consider the 20-year-old a potential first-team prospect for next season.
He backed the North London club to give Etete a new contract and loan him out to a Championship club.
Wenham told Football Insider about the Spurs academy starlet: “He’s really settled in and it looks like he has found some form. There have been some fans who are now talking about his potential involvement with Tottenham next season.
“That is really premature for me. He has made great progress this season. He established himself in League Two and he’s now made the jump to League One.

“I think the plan now will be to give him a new contract in the summer then find a Championship side for him to join. He can continue his development in the Championship. I think anything else is way too soon.”

I have been impressed by how quickly Etete has taken to League One since his move to Cheltenham in January.
In fact, it can be argued that the 20-year-old has looked better at Cheltenham than he did at Northampton as a result of having better players around him.
That suggests that Etete is ready to make the step up to the Championship next season.
