Some Spurs fans on social media have been left impressed with what they have seen from Dennis Cirkin so far in Tottenham’s pre-season friendlies.
The left-back is one of a number of academy graduates to have played a part in all three of the pre-season games against Ipswich, Reading and Birmingham City.
The 18-year-old has looked defensively accomplished and has also showcased his ability on the ball.
While he has not been asked to play a particularly advanced role due to the lopsided back four that Jose Mourinho continues to favour, the teenager has displayed maturity beyond his years so far, especially with the way he has defended.
Some Spurs fans are convinced that Cirkin will break into the first-team next season while others were quite happy to have the youngster as the main cover for Ben Davies at left-back.
A few even suggested that the Spurs academy graduate deserved to start ahead of the Welshman.
Cirkin actually needs to be our starting left back

Biggest compliment I can give Dennis Cirkin is I don’t even look at him as a youth player. He instantly looks the part 👍 pic.twitter.com/3ZHjkXoeQ1

It looks like Ben Davies is coming on for the second half, I assume for Dennis Cirkin.
I thought Cirkin was one of #Spurs’ best performers in the first period. The young left back looked very assured on the ball, made some good challenges and looks ready for the first team #COYS

If you sign a left-back you block Cirkin's path.

I’ve been impressed with Cirkin although the premiership is another step up but he’s more than held his own in this preseason

Once again I thought that young Dennis Cirkin and Harvey White did themselves proud today. #COYS

Dennis Cirkin is closing in to be a squad player for the first team. Very mature. I could see him playing some cup games & EL already this season. White as well.

Spurs Web Opinion
I have been extremely impressed with what I have seen of Cirkin so far. However, he looks much more like a left-sided centre-half of the Jan Vertonghen mould than a wing-back who could bomb on down the left. Perhaps that is a consequence of the system he is playing in.
However, I do believe that Ben Davies does not get the respect he deserves from some parts of our fan base. The Welshman is extremely good defensively and is very tidy in possession. In fact, his attributes make him a perfect player to play as a left-back in our current system.
