Inter Milan believe Spurs-linked centre-back is an upgrade on Bastoni – Journalist reveals

Journalist Graeme Bailey has claimed that the Inter Milan hierarchy believe Tottenham target Gleison Bremer would be an upgrade on Alessandro Bastoni, who is also reported to be on the North London club’s radar.

Bastoni was previously reported to be Tottenham’s top target for the left centre-back role this summer (Football.London) but the Italian’s agent insisted a couple of weeks ago that his client would remain at Inter (Football Italia).

It was subsequently suggested that Spurs had not given up hope of signing Bastoni despite his agent’s statement (The Athletic).

However, Antonio Conte’s men do seem to have given up on their pursuit of the Inter star and turned their attentions to Clement Lenglet, with reports indicating on Wednesday that the Barcelona star is set to join the Lilywhites on loan (Gianluca Di Marzio).

In addition, reports in the Italian media over the past two weeks have revealed that Tottenham are battling Inter for Bremer’s signature (Calciomercato).

Bailey has now explained that the Nerazzurri are desperate to land the Brazilian as they believe he is the best defender in the Serie A.

The journalist told Talking Transfers Podcast: “An interesting defender as well who we will hear about in the coming weeks, Gleison Bremer, the Torino defender, he’s a really interesting character.

“It’s been emerging, and I’ve been speaking to scouts and people within the game, Inter were trying to get this guy, Inter believe he’s an upgrade on Skriniar and Bastoni.

“They think he’s the best defender in Italy, so keep an eye on this guy. Chelsea are in for him as well and Tottenham are in for him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Lenglet is likely to be Tottenham’s only centre-back signing of the summer. However, if Bremer was at the top of Conte’s wishlist, I suspect we would have already presented an offer to Torino. So, my gut instinct is that the 25-year-old is bound for Inter.
