Inter Milan legend urges his old club to push for £17.2m Tottenham Hotspur leader

A Tottenham Hotspur player has been strongly backed for a January move away from north London, with a club legend urging his former side to act decisively should the opportunity arise.

Inter Milan are currently on the lookout for a new goalkeeper, given Yan Sommer’s age, with Spurs’ Guglielmo Vicario having been linked with a move away from north London.

There have been talks of a potential swap deal involving Vicario and Davide Frattesi as both sides look to reach an agreement.

An Inter Milan legend has now urged the club to move swiftly for the Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper ahead of the January window.

Inter Milan legend backs Guglielmo Vicario move from Tottenham

Speaking about Vicario and his suitability for Inter Milan, Walter Zenga made it clear that he would have no hesitation in approving the deal, highlighting both the goalkeeper’s quality and character.

“If you ask me about Vicario at Inter, you are preaching to the choir,” he told Calciomercato.

“I have no doubts and I immediately say yes. We are talking about a really strong goalkeeper and a decent guy. I would particularly like to see him between the posts for Inter, but the names of Caprile and Carnesecchi would also be equally valid.

“Vic has a great quality: he lives for football and does not use football to live. That is not insignificant these days, believe me. He has always remained the same guy he was at the beginning: money and success have not changed him at all.

“That is a quality of no small importance. He is a strong, complete goalkeeper: explosive between the posts. If I played him back then, there must be a reason (laughs).”

Spurs assess Vicario’s future amid scrutiny

Guglielmo Vicario is a player with top qualities, but he is also prone to mistakes, which have brought him under scrutiny in recent weeks for Spurs.

The Italian is far from assured when playing out from the back, with his passing and decision-making leading to costly errors that have caused Tottenham to drop vital points.

There have been talks of Spurs looking to sign a new world-class goalkeeper, but it remains to be seen whether such a move is made this winter and if an agreement will be reached with Inter Milan who are looking to sign Vicario for £15million.
