Inter Milan make official Christian Eriksen announcement

Christian Eriksen has departed Inter Milan following the termination of his contract by mutual consent, the club has confirmed.

The former Tottenham midfielder has not played a competitive game for I Nerazzurri since the end of May having suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s clash with Finland at Euro 2020.

Eriksen has since had a defibrillator fitted to monitor and regulate his heartbeat, but with athletes in Italy banned from taking part in sport with the device, the 29-year-old will now need to say his goodbyes after almost two years at the club.

A statement on Inter’s official website read: “FC Internazionale Milano can confirm that an agreement has been reached to terminate Christian Eriksen’s contract by mutual consent. The club and the entire Nerazzurri family wish Christian all the very best for his future.

“Although Inter and Christian are now parting ways, the bond shall never be broken. The good times, the goals, the victories, those Scudetto celebrations with fans outside San Siro – all this will remain forever in Nerazzurri history.”

Eriksen was given life-saving treatment on the pitch in Copenhagen before being taken to a local hospital where he had an operation to fit an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator).

The device sends electric shocks to the heart should an irregular heartbeat be detected, however, Italian law has prevented him from continuing his career with Inter.

Eriksen played a key role in helping Inter win the Serie A title last season under current Spurs boss Antonio Conte. In total the Dane made 60 appearances for the club, tallying eight goals and three assists.

This was always going to be the case for Eriksen after that awful day during Euro 2020 and there isn’t much anyone can do with the law in place. Hopefully, he will be able to play again considering what a great player he is, but the most important thing above all is his health.
