Inter Milan’s latest stance on landing Guglielmo Vicario has been revealed after the club held talks with the Tottenham Hotspur number one.

Over recent months, it has been widely reported that Inter Milan are making advances in a deal to sign Vicario from Spurs this summer.

It has been suggested that the Tottenham number one is keen to return to the Serie A after spending three years in North London.

Sources have suggested that Inter are hopeful that they can agree a £16m deal for Vicario, whose form between the sticks has been heavily scrutinised this season.

Inter Milan carefully weighing up move for Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario

CalcioMercato say that the Nerazzurri have already made a ‘decisive move’ towards the Spurs goalkeeper, who has greenlighted a summer switch to the San Siro.

However, despite securing the 29-year-old’s approval, the deal is being ‘examined’ by the Serie A club’s decision-makers, who have to make some financial considerations.

Their main issue is that they have only around €40m (£34.6m) to spend this summer, and given that they also need to strengthen other positions, they are hesitant to spend €20m (£17.3m) on a goalkeeper.

As a result, Inter are carefully evaluating their options, which has ‘led to a slowdown in the last few days regarding Vicario‘, although the deal is far from dead.

Inter’s Plan B may spell bad news for Vicario

CalcioMercato say that the Italian giants are no longer only focused on the Tottenham goalkeeper and are also assessing other options.

Their Plan B for next season is to promote their number two, Pepo Martinez, and sign a cheaper understudy for the Spanish goalkeeper.

It is suggested that Martinez’s impressive performances of late could lead to Inter changing their plans regarding the pursuit of the former Empoli man.

This report comes a couple of weeks after TuttoMercatoWeb claimed that Spurs could price Vicario out of a switch to the San Siro.
