Inter Milan reveal Christian Eriksen could resume his career abroad following Serie A snub

Inter Milan have confirmed that Christian Eriksen will not be allowed to play his football in Italy this season.

The midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest while featuring for Denmark in their Euro 2020 opener against Finland in June, Eriksen collapsed suddenly with no one near him and was then taken to hospital after a defibrillator was required while he lay on the pitch.

The Dane was released from hospital after six days of treatment, which included him being fitted with an ICD (implantable cardioverter defibrillator).

The ICD is connected to the heart by wires and sends an electrical pulse in order to correct irregular heart rhythms.

The Daily Mail claim that Eriksen looks set to leave Inter since Serie A rules stipulate that players are prevented from playing in competitive games with a defibrillator fitted.

In a club statement seen by Sky Sports on Thursday, Inter Milan said: “With reference to the registration rights of the player Eriksen, it should be noted that following a serious injury which occurred during the European Championship in June 2021, the player has been temporarily inhibited by the Italian medical authority from sporting activity in the current season.

“Although the current conditions of the player don’t meet the requirements of achieving sporting fitness in Italy, the same could instead be achieved in other countries where the player could resume competitive activity.”

Eriksen was a brilliant servant to Tottenham and the club should look to bring him back to North London on loan during the January transfer window in order to help the playmaker continue his professional career.
