‘Interesting’ – Tottenham midfielder shares his reacts to Nuno’s appointment

Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg has labelled Tottenham’s appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo as ‘interesting’ and is looking forward to working under the new head coach.

Tottenham confirmed on Wednesday that Nuno would be taking over from Jose Mourinho after a prolonged managerial chase that lasted over 70 days.

Fabio Paratici insisted in his interview with Spurs TV that Nuno employed a more attacking formation during his time at Valencia, it remains to be seen if the 47-year-old would be able to deliver the attacking and entertaining football promised by Daniel Levy.

The Portuguese coach will have most of his squad back for pre-season training next week but the likes of Hojbjerg, who have been involved at Euro 2020, will only join with the group later down the line.

When asked about Tottenham’s appointment, the midfielder admitted that his focus is on Denmark’s upcoming quarter-final against the Czech Republic this evening.

Hojbjerg told Danish publication BT (as relayed by InsideFutbol): “Congratulations to him (Nuno) and congratulations to the club.

“It will be interesting (to work with him).

“But I would like to wait a bit to meet him because of things we need to finish here.”

I suspect Hojbjerg would be very highly valued by Nuno, just as he was by Mourinho. While the 25-year-old did not have the best of ends to the campaign, it was pretty evident that he had just run out of gas.

Based on speculation linking us with moves for the likes of Manuel Locatelli and Franck Kessie, it looks like Paratici and Nuno want to bring in a central midfielder this summer.

With Skipp also returning after a successful loan spell at Norwich, there could be a big battle for the central midfield spots. However, I would still expect Hojbjerg to be a key player for us next season.
