International midfielder reveals he was 60 seconds away from joining Spurs

Joao Moutinho has had a fantastic season at Wolves so far. The Portuguese midfielder has settled in well in the Premier League and his consistent performances are one of the reasons why Wolves sit in 7th position in the table at the moment.

The 32-year-old who has been linked with a move to the Premier League since his younger days has now admitted that he came close to moving to two English clubs previously in his career.

He revealed that he was extremely close to moving to Spurs in 2012 after Andre Villas-Boas took charge of the club and that the move fell through as they submitted the paperwork one minute after the transfer deadline had lapsed.

Speaking to the Mirror, Moutinho said: “It’s been close before but it was my mission to play in the Premier League.

“I’ve had one or two opportunities in the past. The first was Everton, the second Spurs. I am in the room but the next day I had a game in Portugal, it didn’t happen, it was one minute from happening… I had actually signed but it was one minute past the deadline.

“You carry on, you continue to do what you like and what I like to do is to play football.

Given how well Moutinho has performed this season so far, there is no doubt that he would have been a great addition to Tottenham when he was a few years younger.

Perhaps, AVB’s era would have turned out differently had Spurs secured Moutinho’s services in 2012.
