‘Introduce him off the bench’ – Some Spurs fans demand academy player gets more opportunities

The Evening Standard have reported that Spurs are confident that Troy Parrott will put pen to paper on a new contract with the club.

The highly-rated youngster, who has 18 months left to run on his contract, is said to be attracting interst from the likes of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

However, it is suggested that Spurs have already begun negotiations with Parrott’s representatives over a new contract and that the club expect the striker to sign a new deal when he turns 18 next month.

Some Spurs fans on social media reacted to the news by demanding that the 17-year-old be handed more opportunities for the first team.

The youngster has not only made a couple of appearances for the first team this campaign but he has also earned his first senior cap for the Republic of Ireland.

Some fans, however, feared that Parrott might look to leave if he isn’t afforded opportunities soon.

The 17-year-old was an unnamed substitute during yesterday’s 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Parrott clearly has an abundance of talent, he is still very young and raw. We cannot put too much pressure on the youngster and expect big things from him too quickly. We need to be patient with and he likely needs to have at least one loan spell away from the club before he is ready to make the step to being a first-team regular.
