Football finance expert Stefan Borsen has explained what Tottenham Hotspur are planning to do this summer ahead of Roberto De Zerbi’s first full season in charge.
The prospect of being relegated from the Premier League for the first time in nearly 50 years is still very much alive for Spurs, who sit just two points clear of West Ham in 18th with two games to go.
Tottenham will be in the drop zone when they take to the field at Stamford Bridge if the Hammers can win at St James’ Park this Sunday.
However, De Zerbi is staying positive about Spurs’ survival prospects, with the Italian pointing out after his side’s 1-1 draw with Leeds that their situation is much better than it was a few weeks ago.

Tottenham prepared to invest substantially in their squad this summer
Reports over the last few weeks have indicated that Spurs are making two different plans for the summer window, depending on whether they stay up or go down.
Finance expert, Stefan Borsen, has now claimed that Tottenham are prepared to change the way they operate in the transfer window should they avoid the drop, backing the Lilywhites to spend ‘substantially’ this summer.
Borsen told Football Insider: “Spurs will invest substantially if they do stay up. I would think this summer you will see a marked difference from the way that they’ve dealt with things before. They will spend more money on higher wages and more money in transfer fees.”
De Zerbi is expected to have a big say on Spurs’ rebuild
De Zerbi is one of the highest-paid managers in the Premier League, having put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the North London club.
That is certainly a big vote of confidence from the club in the Italian, and they are reportedly prepared to listen to his guidance in rebuilding the squad.
Reports indicate that De Zerbi has given Sir Alex Ferguson-type power in Tottenham’s recruitment decisions, and furthermore, sources indicate that the Spurs boss will also have a big say in deciding the club’s next sporting director.
