Is Cameron Carter-Vickers’ Spurs career over?

Tottenham Hotspur are a little light in the centre back position this season, and having Jan Vertonghen out injured has only worsened the issue.

Spurs have only Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, and Juan Foyth as out and out central defenders, although Eric Dier is capable of covering.

It seems all the stranger that young Cameron Carter-Vickers was sent out on loan this season, when surely he would have picked up minutes in the cup competitions.

This wouldn’t have been a bad decision if the USA international was getting regular game time as he did at Sheffield United last season, but that isn’t the case.

Cameron has started just two games for Swansea so far this campaign, making two more appearances from the bench, far from enough to impress Poch.

It appears Pochettino has chosen to place his faith in fellow Argentine Juan Foyth, with Carter-Vickers further down the pecking order.

Perhaps he will get his chance next season, especially if Alderweireld and Vertonghen let their contracts run down.

Or perhaps his hopes of a Tottenham career are fading.
