David Ornstein has now reported that Tottenham’s move for Pedro Porro is off after Sporting Lisbon tried to renegotiate the terms of the deal at the last minute. The player is said to be distraught after he was told he could leave this weekend.
This comes after Record reported through the night that there had been a late twist to Tottenham’s pursuit of Pedro Porro, with the right-back’s switch to the North London in doubt.
Multiple reports on Sunday claimed that Porro’s move to Spurs is a done deal, with Fabrizio Romano taking to social media to state that the Lilywhites had reached a full agreement with Sporting Lisbon and the right-back was soon expected to sign a contract with the Premier League club.
Alasdair Gold also revealed in his column on Football.London yesterday that Porro was set to undergo his medical at Hotspur Way today (Monday) before signing on the dotted line.
Record claimed that while the two clubs reached a full agreement on Saturday, Sporting have now moved the goalposts. The report stated that the Portuguese club now demand that the player’s full release clause be paid, which Tottenham are unwilling to do.

The key difference between the release clause and a transfer fee is that in the former, the full fee would have to be paid upfront. It sounds like Sporting are back to demanding the fee in one lump sum after initially agreeing to accept the £40m in instalments.
