‘It concerns me’ – Mourinho on Spurs players not listening to him

Jose Mourinho has revealed that he is worried about his Tottenham players not listening to his advice and instructions, as demonstrated by the 3-0 defeat at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb this evening.

Spurs went into the match needing just a single away goal to put the result out of the Croatians’ hands. However, they failed to score and capitulated defensively in the process.

Zagreb left-winger, Orsic grabbed himself two goals in normal time to haul the home side back into the match before adding a winner in extra-time.

Mourinho claimed after the game that he had told his players to play to win and to be dominant in the match. He added that even when it was still 0-0, he urged them not to fall back.

He said (Football London): “I believe that by surprise we were not caught.

“Before the game, I told the players to play to win. Play the game to be dominant. Don’t believe to lose 1-0 or 2-1 is ok, don’t go in that direction. Even at 0-0, I said don’t trust it. So by surprise, they were not caught.”

“Dinamo attitude was humble. Professionalism starts in the attitude.”

One journalist asked in return whether it was worrying that the players weren’t listening or responding to those messages. Mourinho agreed that he did find it concerning.

He said (Football London): “Of course, it concerns me. We worked very hard, we tried to provide the best conditions for the players to perform.

“Of course, it concerns me. My position as a head coach is the position that makes me uncomfortable to come in front of the cameras and go deep in analysis.

“I hope you can understand that. I believe all of us have to be humble enough to accept any criticism that you can make of our work. It is not for me to go on that.”
