‘It depends if they keep winning’ – Spurs star talks about club in the third person amidst exit rumours

Tottenham Hotspur will be determined to keep this overachieving squad of players together for another season, whilst adding to it in the summer.

Pochettino is said to have around £100m at his disposal in the summer, after 16 months of not spending a single penny across two transfer windows.

However, the Argentine may have to prepare for life without star playmaker Christian Eriksen, with the Great Dane rumoured to be a target for Real Madrid.

Eriksen has just a year left on his current deal, meaning that Spurs will either have to sign him up to a new contract, sell him, or risk losing him for nothing next summer.

The first option sounds like the most likely at this moment, and Eriksen’s latest interview may hint that his future lies elsewhere.

When asked whether a Champions League win could be the start for something new at Tottenham, Eriksen proceeded to refer to the club in the third person ‘they’, rather than ‘us’ or ‘we’.

Eriksen said (Football London): “It depends if they keep winning, year after year. It changes. Spurs as a club, if you look from a historical point of view from Tottenham at how many trophies they’ve won before, where they’ve been before, it’s new.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Eriksen is ever the professional and will not discuss his future with the Champions League final looming, however, you do get the feeling he is on his way. For a few months now, he has looked like a player who will not be at the club next season, and with Real Madrid sniffing, the final could be his last game. As long as Spurs get a good price and bring in a great replacement, I’m happy.
