‘It gets to me’ – Former Spurs man admits he hates the way Kane gets treated

Kieran Trippier has admitted that he gets annoyed by the constant criticism Harry Kane receives, despite proving people wrong time and again.

Several pundits had opined just a few months ago that Spurs had made a mistake not cashing in on Kane in the summer as the striker was not the same player he was previously (talkSPORT).

However, the 28-year-old certainly shut his critics up against Manchester City on Sunday, putting in a masterclass of centre-forward play as Tottenham emerged 3-2 winners from the Etihad.

Reports indicate that Kane is not ready to commit his future to Spurs just yet and is seeking assurances that Antonio Conte will be backed by the club in the summer transfer window (The Sun).

Trippier has insisted there is no doubt in his mind that the England captain is one of the best strikers in the world and spoke in glowing terms of the way his former Spurs teammate brushes aside the criticism levelled at him.

The Newcastle right-back told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport (23/02/22): “Harry’s Harry, but it gets to me when people are criticising him because Harry’s a goalscorer. He always will be.

“Strikers go through periods of not scoring. But I would back Harry to score so many goals. Like he has shown throughout his career.

“He was unbelievable against Manchester City, not just his goals. But the way he plays. When he is dropping deep and bringing other players into it.

“He has got everything. His range of passing. And he’s shown why he is the best against Man City. It’s like he has to keep proving people wrong.

“Harry doesn’t let it get to him. He is a top professional. He believes in himself and I believe in him – he is the best professional I have ever worked with.”

I have accepted the fact that many people will only realise how good Kane was when he hangs up his boots. The striker will continue having critics doubt him as soon as he goes through a barren spell but he has proven throughout his career that he is mentally strong enough to deal with the unfair criticism levelled at him.
