‘It hurts me’ – Arsenal legend claims Spurs star has been one of the ‘signings of the season’

There can be no doubt that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been a revelation in the Spurs midfield since joining in the summer.

The Dane has been an ever-present for Spurs in the Premier League this season, and many are starting to recognise the importance of the role played by the 25-year-old.

Hojbjerg was signed from Southampton back in July for £15million (Sky Sports), and Lee Dixon believes that he is up there with the best signings of the summer.

The former Arsenal man was speaking during Amazon Prime’s coverage of the Lilywhites clash against Fulham on Wednesday (13/01/21).

Despite the poor performance from Spurs, Dixon couldn’t help but heap praise on the work of Hojbjerg so far this campaign.

However, Hojbjerg hasn’t just improved in his own game as the pundit added that such an addition to the side has helped the likes of Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld improve in defence too.

When asked to describe the impact of Hojbjerg, the former England international stated: “It hurts me quite a lot to say that he is one of the best signings of the season.

“But he has been a [top-quality signing].”

“He is exactly what Tottenham needed. What it’s done as well is that he’s not only improved that midfield, but he has also improved the two CB’s behind him.”

“If you ask Dier about his positioning when the ball is coming towards their back four. He [Hojbjerg] is in the position. We see him go out to the wing to help his full-backs. We also see him dropping in between the two CB’s.”

“He’s covering an awful lot of grass and he just puts his foot in at the right moment. I think he has been a brilliant signing.”
