Glenn Hoddle has criticised the performances of Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez and claims the Colombian is continuing to make the same mistakes.

Sanchez has featured prominently for Spurs under Antonio Conte, starting 10 Premier League games since the Italian’s arrival (Transfermarkt).

The 25-year-old appeared to have hit a rich vein of form in a defensive three, but recent performances have undone such claims in a week which saw Spurs lose back-to-back home games.

Sanchez was part of a leaky defence alongside Cristian Romero and Ben Davies which proved to be the source of Tottenham’s problems in defeats to Southampton and Wolves.

Former Spurs player and manager Hoddle was left unimpressed with the centre-back’s display against the latter on Sunday, slamming his ‘lazy’ approach to defending.

Hoddle told The Analysis Show: “Unfortunately, it is a pattern. I’ve seen it from him, time and time again. I don’t understand some of his defending at times off the ball. In fact, he looks a little bit lazy in his defending.”

Spurs have dropped down to eighth place in the Premier League and have fallen seven points behind the top four.

To make matters worse, their opportunity to recover comes on Saturday evening with a daunting trip to league leaders Manchester City.

Sanchez just isn’t consistent enough to be a solid defender in Conte’s system and he doesn’t help what is already a flaky defensive line. Even when he appears to be looking good, there is always a worry that a mistake will creep into his game, which for the club’s supposed ambitions shouldn’t be the case.
