Pochettino admits difficulty in taking Spurs up another level

While the defeat in the final of the Champions League was extremely hard to take, with the board backing Poch in the summer transfer market, there was a feeling that this was going to be the season which Tottenham pushed on to the next level.

Some Spurs fans would have been optimistic that the team could make some up ground on Liverpool and Manchester City, if not compete with them outright for the title.

However, the team has made an extremely disappointing start to the season and find themselves ten points behind the league leaders Liverpool after just six games.

Alarmingly, Spurs are also yet to win a match away from home in any competition this campaign, and if anything, the top two seem to have pulled further away from the Lilywhites.

Speaking ahead of the game against Southampton, Pochettino has admitted that making the next step will be quite difficult and that the team have to be more consistent if they hope to make it.

When asked about making that step, the Argentine told Football.London, “It’s hard. It’s hard. We are looking at different clubs that are in a different way to us. I don’t want to say or talk about names.

“Because I don’t like comparisons. But how tough it is to be in the last stage – it is difficult. Because it’s not only to be in the last stage, maybe you can appear there in some period, the most difficult thing is to keep this performance and be consistent.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I think most of us have already given up on the prospect of finishing close to either Manchester City or Liverpool. However, I still believe we are the third-best team in the Premier League and expect us to finish third at the end of the season. We have a fairly easy run coming up and hopefully, we will use the opportunity to turn our form around.
