‘It is his fault’ – Pundit claims Spurs can blame Kane if his form hurts them this season

Frank McAvennie has claimed that Tottenham will blame Harry Kane if the club misses out on a European spot this season.

The 28-year-old has scored just one goal in the Premier League so far this campaign, which came against Newcastle United.

While it was touted by some that the striker’s goal at St James’ Park could open the floodgates, he struggled to have any impact in Tottenham’s following fixture in the 1-0 defeat against West Ham on Sunday.

Kane has fared much better away from Premier League action and currently sits on six goals in the Europa Conference League and Carabao Cup in total.

He also scored on international duty last month during England’s World Cup qualifiers against Hungary, Andorra and Poland.

However, that has still not impressed former West Ham striker McAvennie, who believes Kane’s form away from the Premier League will not benefit the club if they miss out on European football altogether.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Kane is still struggling. I get that he’s scoring goals in the other competitions but what is the point in judging him on that?

“Are Tottenham going to win the Carabao Cup? No. Are they going to win the Conference League? Not the way they are going right now.

“They are suffering in the Premier League because their star man isn’t performing. Yes, he scored against Newcastle. Most people could have scored against Newcastle last week.

“If Tottenham don’t finish in the top six or whatever and Kane has scored 20 odd goals, it’s not his fault.

“If they do that this season and he gets 10, for example, it is his fault. He needs to turn his form around.

“Off the ball, he’s been offering very little other than in that Newcastle game. I really don’t think that his heart is in playing for Tottenham.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Although Newcastle were poor, many of us expected Kane to kick on after breaking his Premier League duck, but that just didn’t look close to happening against West Ham.

The team as a whole wasn’t good against the Hammers, but Kane’s performance was especially poor – aside from one chance he had.
