Tottenham Hotspur confirmed earlier today that they have appointed Jose Mourinho as their new manager, replacing Mauricio Pochettino.
While there had been several reports in the press over the last week suggesting the Argentine was edging towards an exit, few expected him to be sacked and a new appointment to be made so quickly.
While most Spurs fans on social media were disappointed to see Mauricio Pochettino leave the club after five and a half years in charge, the reaction to Jose Mourinho’s appointment seems to be rather mixed.
While some fans were quite unhappy with Mourinho’s appointment, others were pleased as they thought it was a statement of intent from the club.
However, the general sentiment among some fans seemed to be that although he wasn’t their prefered choice, they were prepared to back him now that he had been handed the job.
Here’s how some fans on social media reacted to the news:
Mourinho isn’t my cup of tea but then neither was Redknapp and he brought us a lot of good times.

this might be one of the most insane things to ever happen to spurs https://t.co/dWQMjkpekw

Not really happy about all this, but we have to support him. It is what it is.

As with any other manager, I will back Mourinho from the first day. I never imagined myself ever singing or cheering his name, but I don’t support any owner, manager, or player; only Tottenham. And what is most important to me is seeing us get to that next level now.

I’ll back whatever manager is in charge of Tottenham. Although I may not like Jose’s style of football he’s a serial winner and hopefully can guide us into a new era at Tottenham Hotspur. #WelcomeJose pic.twitter.com/MFqYhvvRzZ

This shows ambition from levy. I expect him to begin investing soon.

Spurs Web Opinion
Just like most fans, I will also back Jose Mourinho even though I was hoping he wouldn’t be the one appointed. While we are not likely to compete with the top two, Mourinho is a safe approach and does guarantee top-four finishes and domestic trophies. Let’s hope he can help rejuvenate the club and turn our season around.
