‘It is worrying’ – Vieira admits Palace have Covid cases ahead of Spurs game

Patrick Vieira has revealed that Crystal Palace have experenced a ‘couple of cases’ of Covid-19 ahead of the Boxing Day trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Premier League has called off 12 matches so far this month due to the outbreak of the virus at various clubs.

Spurs have been the worst hit, with the club’s clashes against Brighton and Leicester being called off due to Covid and their trip to Burnley being postponed due to heavy snowfall.

Antonio Conte’s men returned to action after a two-week break to earn a draw against Liverpool on Sunday and they were able to seal qualification to the semi-final of the Carabao Cup by beating West Ham United on Wednesday.

However, Tottenham now face an anxious wait ahead of their clash against Palace, with Vieira revealing that the Eagles are monitoring how the situation progresses following a couple of positive cases at the club.

The former Arsenal midfielder said (via Football.London): “We hope that we are going to be OK. But when you are looking at the number of cases around we are started to be worried.

“We had a couple of cases in the football club in the last few days. We have tried our best to prevent all these kinds of situations but it is worrying.

“The evolution for the next couple of days we don’t know how it will go.”

Hopefully, there are not any more positive cases at Palace before Sunday and the match goes ahead. With Spurs already having three games in hand over some of their rivals, another postponement will be a big setback for the club. It would also severely congest their fixture schedule heading into the New Year.
